The colloquial term “warp drive” comes from science fiction, most famously Star Trek. The faster-than-light warp drive of the Federation works by colliding matter and antimatter and converting the explosive energy to propulsion. The show suggests that this extraordinary power alone pushes the ship at faster-than-light speeds.

Abstract. The Alcubierre warp drive is an exotic solution in general relativity. It allows for superluminal travel at the cost of enormous amounts of matter with negative mass density. For this reason, the Alcubierre warp drive has been widely considered unphysical. In this study, we develop a model of a general warp drive spacetime in classical relativity that encloses all existing warp drive definitions and allows for new metrics without the most serious issues present in the Alcubierre solution. We present the first general model for subluminal positive-energy, spherically symmetric warp drives; construct superluminal warpdrive solutions which satisfy quantum inequalities; provide optimizations for the Alcubierre metric that decrease the negative energy requirements by two orders of magnitude; and introduce a warp drive spacetime in which space capacity and the rate of time can be chosen in a controlled manner. Conceptually, we demonstrate that any warp drive, including the Alcubierre drive, is a shell of regular or exotic material moving inertially with a certain velocity. Therefore, any warp drive requires propulsion. We show that a class of subluminal, spherically symmetric warp drive spacetimes, at least in principle, can be constructed based on the physical principles known to humanity today.

Airman. Sabine Hossenfelder does an excellent job reassuring the mainstream audience that superluminal velocities are more than just fiction, they are a real space-time possibility that may occur in the not-to-distant future. We know that space-time is the fabric of space, which curves as a result of the local distribution of matter/energy. Orbital motion occurs because of space-time. Even though Einstein said it would require an infinite amount of energy to accelerate an object up to and over the speed of light – therefore impossible; faster than light velocities are allowed in current space-time theory. Sabine admits that even though the general relativity form of space-time may not be correct, the mathematics used in the Introducing Physical Warp Drives paper provides a better way of understanding and describing space-time.  

According to charge field theory, space-time is fantasy. Space is nothing but a universal sized volume through which photons travel. All matter (charged particles up thru proton matter) is comprised of photons. Photons move at light speed. Charged particles larger than photons encounter increased numbers of photon collisions, which limits the object’s velocity to well below light speed.  

Miles has criticized mainstream science for failing to explain charge and gravity in terms of the properties of matter alone; further, that mainstream should have realized their theory was wrong when they needed to attribute properties to space itself.
